My Therapeutic Process

One metaphor for ourselves is that we are a garden. Everyone’s soil is different, its composition determined by a variety of past and present factors, many of which are outside of our control. Sometimes our garden flourishes and we enjoy the sights, smells, and sounds of our small plot of land just fine on our own.

Other times, our flowers and vegetables struggle to thrive. We notice that they droop or have various pests that are keeping them from blossoming. Maybe the seed we planted didn’t grow at all.

What happened? Why am I not thriving the way I hoped and so desperately wanted?

Therapy is like the process a gardener takes to find the underlying environmental issues. Together we have to investigate the original soil to see what factors are leading to the current less-than-ideal result. We also have to look at the plants you want to grow in your soil and if they can flourish in your current environment.

I would consider it a privilege and honor to help you tend to your garden.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I can change.

The Therapeutic Space

I strive to create a welcoming space for my clients. My St. Louis office is centrally located in Crestwood, Missouri (63126). Since I know everyone processes differently, I have fidget toys, worry rocks, soft objects for comfort, as well as art supplies to help clients feel comfortable and open.

About Me

Hi. My name is Jill Storm, and I have been working as a therapist since 2023. I received my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

This is a second career for me. Prior to this, I completed a PhD in European Jewish history. I spent years in libraries and archives trying to understand what motivated individuals and how their cultures and values shaped them. I bring this same nuance and attention to detail into the therapy space.

Clients describe me as warm, genuine, and open. I spend time getting to know them. Curiosity guides my sessions. By becoming curious together, we not only learn more about ourselves but also create distance from our thoughts and feelings. We learn we are not our thoughts. We are not our feelings. On the other side is a new part of us waiting to be seen.
